わくらわは人々の持つ弱い紐帯に注目した新しいコミュニケーションメディアです．実社会で稀に起こる偶然の出会いが，人々のつながりの維持と活用のきっかけになることに注目し，これを計算機上で実現しようとする試みです．
我々の日常では，街で旧友とバッタリ再会し近況報告などを介して思わぬ有益な情報を獲得するといった現象がしばしば観察されます．このような現象は，偶然の出会いが人々のつながり（紐帯）の維持と活用のきっかけとなっていることを示していると考えられます．わくらわは，このような偶然の出会いを計算機上で再現することを目的としています．WEB ページを場所と見做して，たまたま同じ時間に同じページを閲覧しているユーザ同士が触れ合うきっかけを与えるものです．
